After Prom Meeting
The After Prom Committee will meet on Monday, March 1st at 7 PM in the JM library.
Baseball news
Any student interested in playing J.V. or Varsity Baseball must attend an organizational meeting on Monday, February 22 in room 218 @ 3:00 p.m
Academic Team
In case you haven’t heard the Academic team missed going to State competition by two questions. The following students Dylan, Bryan, Natalie, Paul and Kevin played exceptionally well. Congratulations to all of you on a great season!
The National Junior Honor Society Meeting
The National Junior Honor Society will meet on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in the Library after school.
Boys Tennis Team Fundraiser
The JMHS Boys Tennis Team is having a pancake breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s in Central Park tomorrow from 8AM to 10AM .Tickets are $5.00 at the door.
Track Meet Results
The following JM Students participated in the Region I Track Meet that was held at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton Virginia. Jaquan Dickson won the boys 55 meter dash and he placed 2nd in the 300 meter dash. He ran 36.95, and the winning time was 36.74 in the fast section. He is ranked #2 going into the State Meet. Will Campbell placed 3rd in the shot put. Rebecca Fisher placed 2nd in the girls 1000 meter run. Ryan Haynes placed 4th in the 1000 meter run, and Megan Wade placed 6th in the 500 meter run. These outstanding athletes will be competing in the Group AA State Championship Meet to be held at Liberty University on February 27th. Congratulations and good luck jackets!
Senior Class Play
The Senior Class will present the concert version of “Guys & Dolls” on March 4th, 5th and 6th in the JM Auditorium. Show time will be 7:30 PM for all performances. There will not be a Senior Class Play dinner on Saturday night.
Students need to turn in textbooks
Students you must turn in your textbooks from term 1 or you will be placed on the school debt list. If you are on the debt list you will not be able to attend Prom, purchase a parking decal or receive your diploma at graduation until the debt is cleared.
Girls Softball practice
Softball practice will begin on Monday, Feb. 22nd. at 3:15 pm. You must have a current sports physical in order to participate. Bring tennis shoes, gloves and workout gear. We will meet in the driver’s ed room 163. Please be on time.
Young Life Meeting
Young Life will meet on Friday February 19th in the lecture hall (room 120) from 3-4 p.m.
Boys Soccer
For all boys interested in trying out for soccer: Tryouts will be held Monday Feb. 22nd from 4:15-5:45 in the gym. You must have a physical to tryout and flat shoes mandatory. Please arrange for your own transportation.
FBLA News
FBLA members are selling red Haiti Relief Bracelets for $2 each – all proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. Students and Faculty may purchase the bracelets from any FBLA member, from the Library, or Mrs. Robinson in Room 236. There is a limited number of bracelets available – so buy yours soon!
League of Extraordinary Women meeting
The League of Extraordinary Women will meet on Thursday afternoon at 3pm in the small lecture hall. Ms. Buffett will be in attendance, so it is very important that you be there. Please bring you folders with you to the meeting
Girls Soccer
Attention potential girl soccer players!! Tryout for the spring season will begin on Monday February 22nd. All abilities are welcome to tryout. Please plan on indoor or outdoor practice. Please see Officer Jones or Mr. Hine in room 246 if you have any questions!!
Financial Aid Administrators Super Saturday event
Seniors: The Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Super Saturday was rescheduled due to snow: King George High School on Saturday, February 20th… 10:00AM- 2:00PM. You and your parents should be able to get one-on-one assistance in processing the FAFSA application. Please bring your documentation on that day.

Report Card Distribution
Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, February 17th. Students will be instructed when to report to homerooms in the afternoon to receive their report cards.
9 Week Interim Distribution Update
Interims will not be distributed on February 19th as previously stated. There will be only one interim distribution for the current 9 weeks and that will be on March 12th, 2010.
Student Schedule Change Deadline
The last day to change student schedules for the 2nd term is Thursday, February 25th.
African American Read-In-Chain date change
The African American Read-In-Chain date has been changed from February 16th to February 24th. It will be held in the James Monroe Auditorium.
JM’s Valentine’s Day Show rescheduled
The JM Drama presentation of “The Valentine’s Day Show” scheduled for February 14th has been rescheduled for February 21st. Show time will be at 2:00PM. If you have any questions, please contact Mark Wright.
The Monroebotics Magic Show
The Monroebotics Magic show will be held in the JM auditorium February 13th as scheduled. Showtimes are noon, 3:30 PM and 7:00 PM.
Principal’s Coffee – February 24th
The principal’s coffee will be held on February 24th from 8 AM – 3:00 PM in the conference room at James Monroe High School. Please stop by and enjoy a cup of coffee, juice or a soft drink with Principal Gordon. No appointment necessary.
JM’s Back to School Night Rescheduled
James Monroe High School’s back to school night for the second semester will be held on February 23rd from 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
Work Keys Test
Students who signed up to take the Work Keys Test at Massaponax this week, please be aware that there will be no session today. An announcement will be made as soon as a schedule is decided upon. Please ride the bus home at the normal time today
Term 1 Grades for Colleges or Universities
Seniors, if you need your Term 1 grades mailed to a college or university, please make your request in writing to Mrs. Ripley in guidance. Grades are not mailed automatically.
February After Prom Meeting
The Next After Prom meeting will be held on Monday, February 8th at 7:00 PM in the school library. All Junior parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please note in case of bad weather and the school is closed the back up date will be Wednesday, February 10th at 7:00 PM
Baseball Conditioning
Off-season Baseball conditioning will be at Lafayette Upper Elementary School on Saturday, February 6th has been cancelled.
Second Semester Parking Fee
Second Semester parking fees are now due. Also students if your spot is not clear due to snow please see Mrs. Thacher for approved locations to park. Students are not allowed to park in the side faculty lot or the band/gym lot at any time.
JM Cafeteria requests lunch counts be current
All students are asked to please keep your lunch count current. Parents or students can pre-pay funds to their account at any time so funds are available when needed to avoid charging meals.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes Meeting
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet every Friday morning in the lecture hall (Rm 120) at 7:15 AM. Everyone is welcome. Please come out and join us in prayer for your family, friends, community and school.
Tardy Matrix Revised
This is a revision to the August Newsletter.
This policy will encompass both tardy to school and tardy to class. The first week of school will be considered a grade period.
1st Tardy – Warning issued and a tardy pass to class.
2nd Tardy – Detention assigned and a tardy pass to class.
3rd Tardy – One day of In School Suspension (ISS)
4th Tardy – Two days of ISS and an Administrator will contact the parent.
5th Tardy – Three days of ISS
6th Tardy – Three days of ISS and Parent Contacted
7th Tardy – Three days of ISS and Parent Contacted
8th Tardy – Three days of ISS and Parent Contacted
We will also conduct random “CLEAN SWEEPS” in which teachers will be instructed to lock their classroom doors when the tardy bell rings. All tardy students will be escorted to the lecture hall where consequences will range from 1 day of ISS to 3 days of ISS.
No outside food or drinks to be brought into JM
Students are reminded that they are not to bring outside food or drinks into James Monroe High School during school hours. This means no McDonald’s, Pizza, Starbucks, etc.. is allowed at any time. Disciplinary actions may be taken for students who violate this school policy.
