Exam Survival Kits Available
This is the last week to order your exam survival kit for someone you care about. See Mrs. Dyer, a DECA student or go to the school store to order yours today. It will be filled with goodies and a note from you. Delivery will be on the first day of exams.
James Monroe Home Basketball Games
Students can purchase tickets to JM home basketball games for the months of December & January during lunch for $3.00 from Coach Serbay. Purchase your tickets so you can be a member of the Monroe Maniacs and let everyone know “We are James Monroe” when our boys take the court on Friday night.
Key Club Cookie Decorating Contest
The 13th Annual Key Club Cookie Decorating Contest will be on Tuesday, December 15th in the library. All members are reminded to come and decorate cookies. If you signed up to donate cookies please remember to bring them. The decorated cookies will be donated to the Homeless Shelter.
PSAT Parent Night
The PSAT Parent Night is scheduled for December 16 at 7:00 P. M at JM in the lecture hall. Please come to pick up your PSAT scores and go over the results. Students who do not pick their scores that night will receive them from the counselors after the winter break.
Varsity Boys’ Basketball Event
Anyone interested in buying basketball tickets for the Brunswick Holiday Classic which will be held for three days Monday, December 28th , Tuesday, December 29th and Wednesday, December 30th 2009? The Boys’ varsity basketball team will be competing in the first annual Brunswick Holiday Classic. JM will play the first game Monday, December 28th @ 2:30pm. Tickets will cost $8 dollars per day. There will be four games a day you can watch. There are three different tickets for each day. The $8 dollars covers all four games for the day. If you would like to buy a ticket please see Ms. Clark, Mrs. Crismon or Mr. Connor.
Senior’s Transcript/Secondary School Report Requests
This is a reminder – if you need your transcript and secondary school report mailed to a college/university before the winter break – you must submit your request to Mrs. Ripley by Friday, December 4.
FBLA News
Santa Notes will be on sale from Tuesday, Dec. 1 through Tuesday, December 15. Students may purchase them from any FBLA member or the Library. Purchase them early – they are limited.
FBLA is sponsoring a school-wide food drive in support of the Fredericksburg Food Bank from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15. Please drop off your canned or boxed items in any of the collection boxes around the school or in Room 236.
Graduation Announcements and Cap & Gowns
Seniors – Jostens will be at JM on December 4th during all lunch waves. This is your last chance to order your graduation announcements and cap & gowns in school. A $60, $80 or $100 deposit is requested for packages, however Jostens will accept cap & gown orders only without a deposit. Now is the time to order to get the best prices and the best delivery. Don’t miss this important event. Order your graduation supplies on Friday, Dec. 4th.
SOL Testing Rescheduled
Due to a testing window complication, the SOL testing scheduled for Monday will be rescheduled.
Students will test in the same locations, in the same groups. The only thing that will change will be the day on which they will test. The new dates for testing are listed below:
Monday, November 23 – All math SOL tests
Tuesday, November 24 – All science SOL tests
Wednesday, DECEMBER 2 – All history SOL tests
Thursday, DECEMBER 3 – All reading SOL tests and make up and expedited retakes
The adjusted remediation schedule is as follows:
The remediation scheduled for today has been cancelled.
Remediation next Wednesday and Thursday for any students taking math or science SOL tests only.
Remediation on November 30 and December 1 for history and reading students.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Meeting
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet every Friday morning in the lecture hall (Rm 120) at 7:15 AM. Everyone is welcome. Please come out and join us in prayer for your family, friends, community and school.
National Honor Society’s Childern’s Book Drive Project
The National Honor Society’s Children’s Book Drive Project has begun! The NHS is collecting gently used books for children ages 2-13, as a way to support and encourage literacy. These books will be donated to the local Head Start program, the Rappahannock Council on Domestic Violence, and other organizations that work with children and families. Book donations can be placed in drop boxes in any English classroom, as well as in the school library. Please see if you have any books at home that your family no longer needs, books that might help another child learn to love reading.
After Prom Committee Meeting
The After Prom Committee will meet on January 12th, 2010, at 7pm in the JM library. All parents of junior students are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, please call Trish McDaniel at (540) 373-4815. Please come and help ensure your child has a great Prom memory to cherish!
Tardy Matrix Revised
This is a revision to the August Newsletter.
This policy will encompass both tardy to school and tardy to class. The first week of school will be considered a grade period.
1st Tardy – Warning issued and a tardy pass to class.
2nd Tardy – Detention assigned and a tardy pass to class.
3rd Tardy – One day of In School Suspension (ISS)
4th Tardy – Two days of ISS and an Administrator will contact the parent.
5th Tardy – Three days of ISS
6th Tardy – Three days of ISS and Parent Contacted
7th Tardy – Three days of ISS and Parent Contacted
8th Tardy – Three days of ISS and Parent Contacted
We will also conduct random “CLEAN SWEEPS” in which teachers will be instructed to lock their classroom doors when the tardy bell rings. All tardy students will be escorted to the lecture hall where consequences will range from 1 day of ISS to 3 days of ISS.
No outside food or drinks to be brought into JM
Students are reminded that they are not to bring outside food or drinks into James Monroe High School during school hours. This means no McDonald’s, Pizza, Starbucks, etc.. is allowed at any time. Disciplinary actions may be taken for students who violate this school policy.
