Barbizon visits JM
A Barbizon representative will be at JM on Oct. 9th during all lunch waves. This is your chance students to ask questions about the industry of Modeling and Acting. They will have hand outs that cover facts on everything from Job Interviwing techniques to What does it cost to live.
Essay Contest
“How can Greater Washington companies responsibly and effectively deal with the economic challenges facing the United States?”
Only two weeks remain to enter the 2009 Junior Achievement Essay Competition!
The 2009 Junior Achievement Essay Competition, sponsored by David M. Rubenstein, is open for only two more weeks! High school students from the Greater Washington Region are invited to enter and compete for one $20,000 scholarship and nine $10,000 scholarships.
The competition is open to any student in the 9th-12th grade until October 1, 2009, and asks students to write a 1,000-1,500 word essay on the topic, “How can Greater Washington companies responsibly and effectively deal with the economic challenges facing the United States?” Students are able to submit their essays to Junior Achievement online at www.myJA.org/students/essay/.
The first place winner will receive a $20,000 scholarship, will be recognized at the prestigious Washington Business Hall of Fame on December 1, 2009, and will have his or her essay published in the January 2010 issue of Washingtonian. Nine additional runner-up winners will each receive a $10,000 scholarship and will be recognized at the Washington Business Hall of Fame.
In addition, in each of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, the school with the greatest number of eligible applications will receive $6,000.

Future Business Leaders of America
Students enrolled in a business class FIRST SEMESTER OR SECOND SEMESTER are invited to join the Future Business Leaders of America NOW. You do not have to wait until 2nd semester and miss a lot of the fun and excitement. Please see Mrs. Robinson in Room 236 to join now – dues are $10.00.
Student Athletes Forms to Coaches
All Freshman and Sophomore Fall athletes must submit your progress reports to your coaches every Thursday before practice. If you have any questions, Freshman should see Ms. Cavataio and Sophomores are to see Mrs. Rachal.
Girls basketball conditioning
Conditioning for girls interested in playing basketball will continue on Mondays & Thursdays starting on September 10th. Please meet in the weight room on Thursday, Sept. 14th at 3:15 p.m. Any questions, please see Coach Bumbrey in room 118.
Student Leadership Meeting
The Student Leadership Meeting will meet briefly afterschool on Wednesday, Sept. 9th to discuss football game activities. All members should plan to attend this short meeting.
DECA Meeting
The DECA club will hold a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 10th after school in the lecture hall at 3 p.m. Snacks will be served.
James Monroe Cheerleaders Competition Squad Tryouts
The James Monroe Cheerleading Coaches will host competition squad tryouts on Friday, September 11th from 3-5 p.m. in the gymnasium. Each participant will be required to perform a chant, cheer, some tumbling and jumps. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Turner at Walker Grant MS or Coach Ballard at Lafayette ES.
James Monroe JV & Varsity Cheerleaders Fundraiser
James Monroe JV & Varsity Cheerleaders will hold a fundraiser at the Chick-fil-A located in CentralPark on Thursday, September 10th between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The cheerleaders will receive 10% of all dining sales for those hours. Please come out and support JM Cheerleaders!
Future Business Leaders of America
On September 23rd, the James Monroe High School Future Business Leaders of America will hold it’s installation of new officers for the 2009-2010 school year.
Class Picture day is Friday, September 11th, 2009
Ordering packets will be given out during homeroom with picture options and prices. In order to purchase your student’s class photo they must have money for the package you are purchasing on picture day. Seniors you must have your photo taken in order to get a school ID. Your school ID will be needed for entrance to school events including Homecoming events.
Josten Class Ring Delivery
Jostens will be at James Monroe High School on September 10th & 14th to deliver class rings. Ring delivery will be during all lunchwaves. You may still order a class ring if you have not already done so, just see the Josten Representative at the table set up in front of the library.
President Obama’s Student Welcome Back Address
President Obama’s Student Welcome Back Address on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at approximately 1 p.m. will be shown at James Monroe High School at the discretion of the teacher. Teachers have the freedom to also use the address as a supplemental resource during instruction.

2009-2010 Student Parking Decals Increase
James Monroe High School student parking decals will be $50.00 per semester or $100.00 for the year. The parking permit application is available on line for the 2009-2010 school year or you may pick up an application in the main office of JMHS. Please make sure you have a valid driver’s license, a copy of the registration of the vehicle you will be driving on campus and have completed all information on the application including student and parent signatures on pages 1, 3 and 4. Please make sure you keep page 2 as it is your copy of the parking regulations. Please note: you must have the car’s registration when submitting your application and not the insurance card or you will have to reschedule a time to come back in as only fully completed parking applications with current vehicle registrations will be accepted. Also you must have taken behind the wheel in order to apply for a parking decal, no learner’s permits without the 180 day provisional driving license certificate will be accepted. **Students who are driving themselves to school must purchase a parking decal and park in their designated spot on campus. No off campus parking is allowed on side street. Ticketing and towing will be enforced by the Fredericksburg City Police Department. If you have any questions or to schedule an appointment to purchase decals, please call Mrs. Thacher at 372-1100.
Drivers Education – Behind the wheel
Effective July 1, 2009 the cost of Behind the Wheel at James Monroe High School will be $200.00. If you have questions please see Mr. Brown or Mr. Ribel.
