National Junior Honor Society
National Junior Honor Society will hold a meeting today at 2:50 in the library. The meeting is for new and existing members.
Spectrum
Spectrum the first ever Gay/Straight Alliance will hold an information meeting in room 218 on Friday, October 24th at 2:50 p.m. All those interested in attending are welcome.
Spanish Club News
The Spanish Club pictures will be taken on Wednesday, October 22 immediately after school. Please meet in Mrs. Chaves’ room and make sure to pay your dues by this date
Yellow Jackets Marching Band News
Congradulations to the James Monroe High School Marching Yellow Jackets for attending Lee Davis High School Tournament of Champions and received 1st place in Drumline, 2nd place General Effect, and 3rd overall in the single A division. Saturday, Oct. 25 they will attend Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors Association Music Festival at Massaponax High School. Good Luck Jackets!
Swim Team
There is a mandatory swimmer’s meeting for swimmers and parents Wednesday night at 7:30 in the lecture hall.
University Representatives
The following universities will be visiting JM this week: On Thursday the Virginia Commonwealth University at 10:45a.m. and the Virginia Military Institue at 11:45 a.m.. On Friday The University of Richmond will be at JM at 8:00 a.m
2008 New Student Orientation Leaders
New student orientation leaders will be having a yearbook picture taken on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 2:55 p.m in the commons area. Please wear your NSO t-shirt.
UMW Multiculteral Open House

A representative from Germanna Community College will be here Monday, October 20th at 9:30 a.m. Any senior interested should secure a pass from the counseling center.
JM Boys’ Tennis Club
The James Monroe Boys’ Tennis Club will hold it’s first meeting on Monday, Oct. 20th at 2:50 p.m. in the health room. All those interested in playing tennis, please attend.
Norwich University Representative
A representative from Norwich University will be at JM on Wednesday, Nov. 5th in the commons during lunch waves.
Amnesty International
There will be an organizational meeting for Amnesty International, human rights group, on Tuesday, Oct. 21st at 2:50 p.m in the library.
Junior Statesman of America
The Junior Statesman of America will have it’s first meeting of the year on Wednesday, Oct. 15th after school in room 212. All returning members from last year including anyone who is interested in joining should attend this meeting. IF you are interested, see Mr. Snyder in room 212 for details. Snacks will be provided during the meeting.
Boys’ Basketball
Anyone interested in trying out for the boys basketball team should attend the meeting today in the lecture hall at 3:00 p.m.
DECA News
DECA yearbook photos will be taken today at 3 pm in front of the school. Please be there.
Fashion Marketing field trip to New York forms are due Friday with deposit.
Key Club Photos
Key Club yearbook photos will be taken on Tuesday, Oct. 14th in the library at 2:50 p.m. before the start of the regular monthly meeting. Ghost gram supplies will be distributed at the meeting so attendance is required.

College Representatives

(1) VA Tech Tuesday, October 14 at 8:00 a.m.(2) Randolph-Macon College Tuesday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. and (3) Hampden-Sydney College Friday, October 17 at 8:00. Any senior interested should secure a pass from the counseling center
French Club
French Club members should see Madame Orgeron today or tomorrow to pick up permission slips for next Wednesday’s bilingual tour of Rising Sun Tavern. Permission slips are due by Monday, October 13.
Powder Puff
There will be a brief meeting for all powder puff participates today immediately after school in the lecture hall. If you can not make the meeting please see Mr. Hine in room 246.
Senior Class Fundraisers
(1) Oct. 23rd – Seniors will work the concession stand @JM for the Battlefield District Cheerleading Competition from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Seniors this is your opportunity to earn money for your senior trip. If you do not work you will not earn credit towards your trip. Some students have already earned $50 toward their trip. Sign up with Mrs. Waterman in guidance to work.
(2) Oct. 27th – CiCi’s Pizza in Central Park from 5-8 p.m. Currently all slots are filled but you may get on a waiting list in guidance in case someone can not keep their appointed time.
Oct. 31st – Seniors 50/50 Football Raffle for the game has been cancelled.
Homecoming Tickets & T-Shirts
Homecoming tickets are available in the library, the school store, Mr. Gron’s room 223 & Mr. Hine’s room 246. Single tickets are $7.00 and Couple tickets are $10.00
Homecoming t-shirts are being sold in the library, Mr. Gron’s room and Mr. Hine’s room. T-shirts are $10.00
Freshmen Class
Freshmen dues are $5.00 and are to paid tomorrow morning to Mr. Hine or during 1st period to Mr. Crocco.
Senior Dues
Seniors dues are $50.00 and must be paid or senior will be placed on the school debt list. Seniors who owe a debt to JM will not receive their diploma at graduation on June 12th, 2009. See Mrs. Thacher to pay your dues or if you have questions.
National Honor Society
All Current National Honor Society members are reminded to bring in their items for the NHS induction reception tomorrow morning to Mrs. Cunningham in room 106
National Honor Society
Attention all National Honor Society members and incoming members who will be inducted tomorrow: Our rehearsal for the induction ceremony starts tomorrow, Tuesday, at 12:15 in the auditorium. Please arrive promptly. Induction will be at 2 pm.
Lunch in the library
The lunch in the library book discussion group starts on Wednesday, Oct. 8th during lunch waves. Interested readers can join Mr. Fourie in the library. Every Wednesday new and interesting books will be discussed.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet on Oct. 17th at 7:15 a.m. in the Lecture Hall.
Spanish Club
Spanish Club will meet on Oct. 1st in room 132 at 3 p.m. Everyone please be present as elections of officers will take place during meeting.
Key Club
Key Club will re-open it’s membership due to overwheling demand. Fifteen dollar dues must be paid to Mrs. Caine in room 124 by Wednesday, October 1st at 3 p.m. No further exceptions will be made
Sophomore Class
Attention Sophomores: Homecoming is near and the Sophomore class needs your help to make this year as great as possible. Please pay your $5.00 dues before October 4th. You may pay your dues to any Sophomore class officer or to the Sophomore Class sponsor, Mrs. Cunningham in room 106.
Senior Class News
Calling all Jayem Seniors! Your class dues are $40.00 and due by Oct. 3rd to Mrs. Thacher. After Oct. 3rd a late fee goes into effect and dues will be $50.00. So please pay your dues early! Dues are used to pay for your graduation cap & gown as well as cover other senior activites. Until dues are paid students will not be allowed to participate in Homecoming, Prom, senior trip or participate in graduation.
S.T.E.M Night
S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs at the University) Night has been rescheduled. New Date is: October 15, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Langley High School at 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101
