Spanish Club

Spanish Club will meet on Oct. 1st in room 132 at 3 p.m. Everyone please be present as elections of officers will take place during meeting.

Varsity Girls Soccer Players

Attention potential varsity girls soccer players: If you are interested in playing indoor soccer at the fieldhouse beginning in November, please reserve your spot with Mr. Hine or Officer Jones no later than Sept. 30th.  The Fee is $80.00 until Sept. 30th and will increase to $85.00 on Oct. 1st.

Key Club

Key Club will re-open it’s membership due to overwheling demand. Fifteen dollar dues must be paid to Mrs. Caine in room 124 by Wednesday, October 1st at 3 p.m. No further exceptions will be made

Field Hockey

Due to the heavy rain down in the beach area James Monroe field hockey doubleheader with York and Grafton has been postponed, make up date or dates will be determined at a later time

Girls’ Softball conditioning will be held Monday – Thursday at 3 p.m.

The Monroe Singers will be selling pizza after school on Tuesdays in the common’s.

There will be a Latin Club meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 24th at 7:15 am in room 126

Retirement Information

Charlie O’Connor, an independent retirement specialist will be in the library conference room on Tuesday, Sept 23rd and Wednesday, Sept. 24th from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. with information on guaranteed retirement options. Information is in your mailboxes. You may stop by at your convenience. The plans are available for everyone and their families.

Boys & Girls Club

Boys & Girls Club will be closed this Thursday, Sept. 25th for staff training.

Longwood University Representative

A representative from Longwood University will be at JM on Friday, Sept. 26th at 10:00 a.m. Any senior interested should secure a passs from the counseling center.

JM Robotics

There will be a JM Robotics Team meeting today in room 228 at 3 p.m. Everyone interested in joining should plan to attend.

Sophomore Class

Attention Sophomores: Homecoming is near and the Sophomore class needs your help to make this year as great as possible. Please pay your $5.00 dues before October 4th. You may pay your dues to any Sophomore class officer or to the Sophomore Class sponsor, Mrs. Cunningham in room 106.

Vote 2008

Are you a registered voter? If you are 18 years old or will be 18 by November 4, 2008, you are eligible to vote this year. You will have the opportunity to register during your lunch shift in the cafeteria on Thursday, Sept. 25th and Friday, Sept. 26th.  Look for the marked table during your lunch wave.

Attention Seniors! The scholarship website has been updated. There are at least 16 active scholarships available for your usage.

Junior Class News

Attention Junior Class members! Your dues for the 2008-2009 school year are $20.00. Homecoming is fast approaching, please pay your dues to your homeroom teacher or to Mrs. Griffin in room 122. A meeting of Junior Class Officers will be held on Monday, Sept. 29th in room 122.

Senior Class News

Calling all Jayem Seniors! Your class dues are $40.00 and due by Oct. 3rd to Mrs. Thacher. After Oct. 3rd a late fee goes into effect and dues will be $50.00. So please pay your dues early! Dues are used to pay for your graduation cap & gown as well as cover other senior activites. Until dues are paid students will not be allowed to participate in Homecoming, Prom, senior trip or participate in graduation.

Key Club

Key Club will close it’s open membership enrollment on Friday. If you are still interested in joining or renwewing your Key Club membership, please pay your $15 dues to Mrs. Caine in room 124 by the end of school on Friday. Membership will not be reopened until next semester.

S.T.E.M Night

S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs at the University) Night has been rescheduled. New Date is: October 15, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Langley High School at 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101

French Club

The French Club will have it’s first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 17th at 3 p.m. in room 134. Bring $5.00 for dues, a snack to share, a plain t-shirt and fabric paints if you have them. We will discuss this year and make French Club t-shirts. The French club is open to everyone.

League of Extraordinary Young Women

All members of the League of Extraordinary Young Women need to pick up your invitiation to the cookout at Riverbend High School on Sept. 28th, 2008 before you leave school today. Your RSVP is due to Mrs. Byrum tomorrow.

Yellow Jackets marching band

Congrats to the James Monroe High School Marching Yellow Jackets for their winnings this past weekend. Saturday they traveled to C.D. Hylton High School for the Band Along the Occoquan Fifth Annual Competition. They received 3rd overall in Single A Division, 1st in Percussion, 1st in music,  and Congrats to Erin Tucker for winning 2nd for Drum Major.

ODU Representative Visit

A representative from Old Dominion University will be at JM on Friday, Sept. 19th at 11:30 a.m.  Any senior interested should secure a pass from the counseling center to attend.

PSAT

This Friday, Sept. 19th is the last day to register for the PSAT. Any 10th or 11th grade student wishing to take the PSAT needs to register in guidance. The fee is $14.00 for Juniors and free for Sophomores. Test date is Saturday, October 18th. Test site is James Monroe High School.

Art Club

Art Club will be having it’s first meeting tomorrow after school from 3-4 p.m. in room 213. Art club will also meet this Thursday from 3-4 p.m and every Thursday during the school year.

JMHS Volleyball

Future Business Leaders of America

Military Academy Day

Congressman Rob Wittman invites you to attend Military Academy Day on Saturday, Sept. 20th at Rappahannock Regional Library from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Meet representatives from the service academies.

Future Business Leaders of America

Students who enrolled in a business class for 2nd semester are invited to join the Future Business Leaders of America NOW! You do not have to wait until the 2nd semester to join. If you wait you will miss out on TONS of fun. Please see Mrs. Robinson in room 236 to join. Dues are $10.00. Officer applications are also being accepted now.

2008-2009 Student Parking Decals

Students who plan to park on campus must submit a Parking Permit Application (available by selecting the Policies & Forms link in the left side bar), a copy of the current registration of the vehicle which will be parked on campus and a $20.00 fee. Decals are sold by appointment only. Please contact Mrs. Thacher at 372-1100 to schedule your appointment. No decal will be issued without all of the proper forms listed above. Also please note: Any student with a learner’s permit who has not completed behind-the -wheel instruction and received their 180 day temporary provisional license will NOT be allowed to purchase a decal. Any student owing a debt to James Monroe High School must clear the debt prior to obtaining a parking decal.
